‘Kandili’ tree planting event unites Filipinos in Dubai for environmental sustainability

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has partnered with GoMommy.ae to launch “Kandili,” their first mangrove tree planting event, as part of the Consulate’s “Labindalawa” campaign. Held on March 7, 2025, at the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary, the initiative aims to promote environmental stewardship and empower communities to preserve nature.

The name “Kandili,” meaning “protective care” and “nurturing” in Filipino, reflects the Filipino spirit of malasakit—a deep commitment to caring for others, including the environment. This event underscores the Consulate’s dedication to sustainability and collective responsibility in protecting nature for future generations.

Mangroves play a crucial role in coastal protection, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation. By participating in Kandili, volunteers helped contribute to these vital environmental goals.

Consul General Marford M. Angeles praised GoMommy’s commitment to both business and environmental responsibility, specifically highlighting their innovative “Gift a Tree” cards. He acknowledged Mrs. Bea Bagac-Lataza, Co-founder and CEO of GoMommy, for her leadership as a woman in tech, and expressed admiration for her dedication to the One Billion Tree Planting Initiative (OBTI).

Major Ali Al Suweidi, Founder and CEO of EMEG, also commended Mrs. Bagac-Lataza for her role in supporting OBTI, while Mr. Kharl Lataza, Head Web Developer of GoMommy, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the Consulate in this important environmental initiative.
