A 29-year-old man in Chile was arrested after running onto the runway of El Tepual International Airport in Puerto Montt in an attempt to stop a plane from taking off.
The passenger, who was late for his flight to Concepción on March 3, reportedly tried to flag down a LATAM Airlines jet as it prepared for departure. Airport staff quickly intervened and removed him from the tarmac.
Authorities confirmed the man will face a judge on March 11, though the exact charges have not been disclosed.
Puerto Montt Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt criticized the incident, raising concerns over airport security and how the man was able to access the restricted area.
Local reports revealed that this is not the man’s first encounter with law enforcement, having previously been arrested for threats and theft.
