Metro Manila posts 37% decline in key crimes in February 2025

Metro Manila saw a significant drop in eight major crimes in February 2025, with a 37.06% decrease compared to the same month last year, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

Data from the NCRPO showed that crime volume went down from 545 cases in February 2024 to 343 in February 2025. Murder cases declined from 31 to 18, while homicides decreased from 12 to 9.

Reports of physical injuries nearly halved from 57 to 29, while rape cases were reduced from 91 to 46. Robbery incidents also dropped from 83 to 55, and theft cases fell from 229 to 152.

Vehicle-related crimes likewise saw improvements, with carjacking incidents decreasing from 7 to 3 and motorcycle thefts going down from 35 to 31.

NCRPO chief PBGen Anthony Aberin attributed the decline to increased police visibility, intelligence-led operations, and stronger community engagement.

Despite the overall decrease, Aberin said the police continue to monitor and address new crime trends, particularly those involving vehicle-related offenses.
