Dubai fines 159 firms AED 50,000 each for violating telemarketing rules

Dubai authorities have issued warnings to 174 companies for breaching the UAE’s telemarketing regulations since the enforcement of new rules in August 2024. Of these, 159 firms faced fines of AED 50,000 each for failing to comply.

The Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade (DCCPFT) is leading efforts to curb intrusive telemarketing calls and uphold consumer rights under Cabinet Resolutions No. 56 and 57 of 2024. The regulations aim to minimize unwanted calls, safeguard privacy, and ensure businesses engage with consumers through proper channels and timings.

The rules apply to all licensed companies in the UAE, including free zone entities that market products or services via phone calls. Key requirements include refraining from calling numbers registered in the ‘Do Not Call Registry’ (DNCR), limiting telemarketing calls between 9 AM and 6 PM, and informing consumers at the start of a call if it is being recorded.

Authorities encourage consumers to report unsolicited telemarketing calls through the official consumer rights website: Consumer Rights UAE.
