Saudi couple dies in tent due to carbon monoxide poisoning

A Saudi couple on a desert trip tragically lost their lives after carbon monoxide from burning charcoal filled their tent in Qurayyat, Al Jawf Province. Qablan Al Sharari and his wife had journeyed over 400 kilometers east of Sakaka to enjoy the wilderness and collect truffles. However, the quiet adventure turned deadly when the gas accumulated in the enclosed tent, leaving no time to escape.

Rescue teams discovered the couple unresponsive, with investigations confirming that carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause. Nokhbat Al Shamal Association, which assisted in locating the pair, confirmed the loss on social media and announced that funeral prayers would be held at King Fahd Mosque in Al Qurayyat.

In response to the incident, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence reminded the public of the dangers of using burning charcoal in unventilated spaces. They stressed that carbon monoxide, an odorless and invisible gas, can quickly lead to fatal consequences. Officials urged campers and homeowners to adopt safer heating practices, including using modern devices with built-in safety features and ensuring adequate ventilation when using charcoal.
