10-year-old boy dies after choking on gummy candy shaped like an eye

A 10-year-old boy in Malaysia tragically passed away on February 20, two days after choking on a gummy candy shaped like an eyeball, New Straits Times reported.

Mohamad Fahmi Hafiz Mohamad Fakhruddin collapsed during a religious class on February 18 and was rushed to Penang General Hospital, where he was placed in the pediatric intensive care unit. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries around 11 p.m. on February 20, with his parents by his side.

His family later found the gummy candy in his clothes, which he had reportedly purchased outside the school without anyone knowing.

Fahmi’s father, Mohamad Fakhruddin Mohamad Fikri, expressed his grief but said he had come to terms with his son’s passing, adding that at least his son was no longer suffering.

Fahmi’s remains will be taken to his grandmother’s home in Permatang Binjai, Penang, for final rites.
