Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino advocate for farmers and entrepreneurs across key provinces

Former Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino recently visited the vote-rich provinces of Pangasinan and Bulacan, underscoring their commitment to supporting Filipino farmers and entrepreneurs.

Pangilinan participated in the Farmer’s Day celebration in San Nicolas, Pangasinan, before speaking at the Sulong Agrikultura Forum in San Carlos City. He emphasized the need to modernize farming to attract younger generations by incorporating new technologies. Pangilinan, who is also a farmer, highlighted that with adequate government support, the agriculture sector could significantly boost its productivity and income.

“Huwag lang tayo mag-focus sa mataas na presyo ng bigas, kundi pati na rin ang pagpapalakas sa mga magsasaka na nagpapakain sa atin,” Pangilinan remarked in a GMA News Online report.

Pangilinan, who served as food security czar under President Noynoy Aquino, is known for authoring the Sagip Saka law, which facilitates direct purchasing from farmers by both national and local governments.

Meanwhile, Aquino focused his campaign on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) during a roundtable discussion with local entrepreneurs in Malolos, Bulacan. He stressed the importance of assisting small businesses, which in turn generates jobs and stimulates local economies.

“I firmly believe that helping small businesses leads to job creation, partnerships, and support for farmers. It brings economic activity to the places that need it,” Aquino said.

As one of the key authors of the Go Negosyo Act, Aquino highlighted the success of Negosyo Centers, with four located in Malolos City and 27 across Bulacan. The centers provide essential services like financing, mentorship, and marketing support to MSMEs.

Both provinces, with 2.15 million voters in Pangasinan and 2.17 million in Bulacan, are considered critical battlegrounds for the upcoming elections.
