Tortang Talong named second-best egg dish in the world

Filipino favorite Tortang Talong has earned global recognition, ranking second in TasteAtlas’ list of the best-rated egg dishes worldwide.

The food guide released its latest rankings on February 20, with Tortang Talong receiving a 4.4-star rating. This humble Filipino dish is made by roasting whole eggplants, dipping them in beaten eggs, and pan-frying until golden and crispy. It is often enjoyed on its own or with added ingredients like ground meat and vegetables.

“Inexpensive and quickly prepared, Tortang Talong can be enjoyed at any time of day as a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner,” TasteAtlas noted.

The guide also highlighted some of the best places to try the dish, including Sarsa Kitchen + Bar in Makati, La Preciosa Restaurant in Laoag, LZM Restaurant in Tagaytay, Fely J’s Restaurant, and 8065 Bagnet Restaurant in Makati.

Japan’s Ajitsuke Tamago (Ramen Egg) topped the list, followed by Staka Me Ayga from Greece, Strapatsada from Greece, and Ispanakh Yumurta from Turkiye in the third to fifth spots.
