Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented traffic upgrades at 50 locations across the emirate in 2024, significantly improving travel times and reducing congestion. These enhancements have cut travel durations from 10 minutes to just 4 minutes in some areas—a 60% improvement.
According to a survey, Dubai motorists lost up to 35 hours to traffic congestion last year. The recent road improvements are expected to ease daily commutes and enhance overall mobility.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, highlighted the impact of these measures, stating that they have increased road capacity by up to 20% in several areas while improving vehicle flow and reducing congestion.
Among the key projects was the extension of Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street, where an additional lane increased capacity to 4,500 vehicles per hour. Other upgrades included new entry and exit points in Nad Al Sheba, the widening of Beirut Street, and expansions at major intersections such as Al Khawaneej Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street.
In addition to general road improvements, RTA also focused on enhancing school traffic management. Eight projects covered 37 schools across Dubai, including Kings’ School on Umm Suqeim Street, The International School of Choueifat, and Dubai College on Hessa Street. These enhancements included widening roads, adding parking spaces, and optimizing entry and exit points, resulting in a 20% improvement in peak-hour traffic flow.
Building on this momentum, RTA plans to roll out over 75 more traffic improvement projects in 2025, further strengthening Dubai’s reputation for world-class infrastructure and seamless mobility.
