Veteran South Korean actress Lee Joo Shil has passed away at the age of 80.
Her agency, 1230culture, confirmed the news on Sunday, February 2, stating that she died that morning. The agency also shared that her health had declined about three months ago, leading to a stomach cancer diagnosis after a hospital check-up.
Lee Joo Shil had previously battled breast cancer, which she overcame after more than a decade following her diagnosis in 1993.
Born in 1944, she had a prolific acting career, starring in major productions such as Train to Busan, the long-running drama Country Diaries, and hit series The Uncanny Counter and It’s Beautiful Now.
Her most recent projects included KBS2’s Beauty and Mr. Romantic and Squid Game 2, where she portrayed the mother of Wi Ha Joon’s character, Hwang Jun Ho.
