Judge Frank Caprio shares keys to success with UAE students

Renowned Judge Frank Caprio imparted words of wisdom grounded in education, perseverance, and compassion to students at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) today, sharing the core principles that propelled him from humble beginnings to becoming a globally recognized judge.

Formerly the Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Providence, US, Judge Caprio has gained widespread recognition and the endearing title of “The Nicest Judge in the World” thanks to his empathetic rulings which took the internet by storm.

During his visit, organized on the sidelines of the 12th International Government Communication Forum where he was a keynote speaker, Judge Caprio spoke with Dr. Susan Mumm, the Chancellor of AUS, learning about the university’s history and diverse student body. His interactions extended to members of the AUS Student Council and a group of international exchange students.

Addressing an American History class, Judge Caprio emphasized the value of hard work and determination. “The road is not paved with gold and it is bumpy, so don’t you ever quit,” he encouraged the students, urging them to study hard and conquer the world with unyielding perseverance.

Reflecting on his own humble beginnings in an immigrant family, he attributed his success to the values of education and familial support. His early experiences of hard work, ranging from shining shoes to delivering newspapers, fostered a resilience that would see him rise to prominence as a judge.

He echoed his mother’s wisdom, stating, “People can take away many things from you in life but can never take away your education.” He reminded the students that their actions now would shape their futures and potentially influence the lives of their eventual families, encouraging them to be cognizant of the bigger picture in life.

AUS students warmly received Judge Caprio’s visit, finding inspiration in his words and journey. Mira Daoud, an accounting major and President of the AUS Student Council, praised the opportunity to interact with such a prominent figure, saying, “Judge Caprio is a role model and he inspires me to be a better person and do good in the world.”
