Asian man found guilty of stealing Dh300,000 worth of goods in Dubai heist

Dubai authorities have sentenced a 28-year-old Pakistani man to one year in prison for his involvement in an armed robbery, during which he and his accomplices stole valuables worth over Dh300,000. Following his jail term, he will be deported, as per the Dubai Criminal Court ruling.

According to a Khaleej Times report, the crime took place in April 2024 in the Al Muraqqabat area, where the defendant and his gang lured two residents to a location before threatening them with knives. The victims were transporting seven boxes containing 100 mobile phones valued at Dh296,300 and 62 watches worth Dh10,000, court records revealed.

The robbers not only took the boxes belonging to an electronics trading company—containing high-end Samsung and iPhone devices as well as luxury watches—but also stole the victims’ personal belongings. One of the victims lost a Samsung Ultra S22, Emirates ID, Dubai-issued driving license, three bank cards, a car key, and Dh17,400 in cash. The second victim had his Honor 98 phone, Emirates ID, driving license, Dh40, and a blue Nike wallet stolen.

Dubai Police launched an investigation and successfully apprehended the defendant, but his accomplices remain at large. The accused denied the charges in court but was found guilty. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay a fine exceeding Dh300,000.
