Gloria Romero’s family debunks fake will circulating on social media

The family of veteran actress Gloria Romero has dismissed as fake news the alleged last will and testament circulating online, which falsely claims she left behind over P717 million in bank assets and a mansion worth P19 million.

In an interview with News5, the family called the viral post “misleading, baseless, and lacking evidence,” urging the public to allow them space to grieve.

The post, originally published by the Pinoy History Facebook page, falsely claimed that 40% of Romero’s alleged wealth was allocated for building a provincial high school in Pangasinan, while 30% was supposedly donated to charity institutions. The remaining funds were allegedly bequeathed to individuals named Maritess G. Gutierrez-Balbin and Christopher Juno G. Balbin—both of whom have no confirmed relation to the late actress.

Following backlash, Pinoy History issued a statement acknowledging their mistake, claiming that the figures were merely an estimate that had unintentionally gone viral. “We sincerely apologize to the Galla family for the false amount that should be part of the confidentiality,” they stated.

They also announced that they had removed the admin responsible for the misinformation, explaining, “As part of editing this post, we have removed the Admin who put the exact amount or division of her inheritance, insisting that it was just an estimate.”

Despite their apology, this isn’t the first time Pinoy History has spread misinformation. In 2023, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray called out the page for falsely claiming she was involved in a film titled Papaano Kung ‘Di Namatay Si Jose Rizal?, where she was supposedly cast as Josephine Bracken and even referred to as “Catriona Gray-Milby”.

Gray quickly shut down the rumor, commenting, “Grabe naman this page, laging fake news peddler. Wala akong part ng movie na ‘to. Name ko po, Catriona Gray – hindi pa ako married. Kaloka.”

The same fake post also falsely claimed that Dingdong Dantes would star in the project alongside actors Jean Garcia, Snooky Serna, Sandy Andolong, Hero Angeles, Robert Arevalo, Luis Alandy, Jason Abalos, Ariella Arida, Benjamin Alves, Ynna Assistio, and Yayo Aguila.
