Malacañang designates January 27 as a Muslim holiday in select regions

Malacañang has announced that January 27, 2025, Monday, will be a Muslim holiday in observance of Isra Wal Mi’raj, the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin clarified that the holiday applies specifically to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other Muslim areas as defined in the Muslim Code.

“It is not a national holiday but a Muslim holiday observed in BARMM and other designated areas,” Bersamin explained. He also noted that Muslims outside these areas, such as in the National Capital Region, are excused from reporting to work.

Isra Wal Mi’raj is a significant event in Islam, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad’s ascension to the seven stages of heaven and his journey from Mecca to Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his best wishes to Filipino Muslims, encouraging them to embrace diligence and perseverance in their pursuits while observing this sacred occasion.
