Seventeen Filipino seafarers from the M/V Galaxy Leader, who were held captive in Yemen for more than a year, have safely returned to the Philippines. The crew arrived at NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City on Thursday evening, landing via Oman Air flight 843 at 9:31 PM.
The repatriation was part of a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., ensuring the immediate return and comprehensive assistance for the seafarers under a unified government approach aimed at protecting their welfare and that of their families.
Leading the welcome at the airport were Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, and other government officials, signifying the administration’s commitment to supporting the maritime workforce.
