The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has assured the public that it is actively monitoring the ongoing investigation into the death of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Dafnie Nacalaban in Kuwait.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac stated during an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo that a lawyer has been deployed to coordinate with Kuwaiti authorities handling the case.
“There has been an admission of guilt by the suspect to the authorities. We are now awaiting the filing of charges in Kuwait’s criminal court to begin the trial and pursue justice for Dafnie and her family,” said Cacdac.
He also revealed that the suspect’s entire family may be implicated in the crime due to their involvement in concealing details. The primary suspect is reportedly the older sibling in the family, while the brother who eventually reported the incident is also in custody, along with other family members.
“Everyone in the family is in custody for concealment, as they knew about the crime but failed to report it promptly. The incident was only reported on December 28,” Cacdac added.
Nacalaban, who had worked in Kuwait for five years, reportedly left her employer in October. Her remains were discovered in a decomposed state inside the house of a Kuwaiti citizen on December 31.
The DMW is still gathering details about the case, particularly regarding the suspect’s possible connection to Nacalaban’s employment. “We need to clarify if the crime suspect was her employer or if another situation led to the crime. These details will be revealed in the indictment,” explained Cacdac.
Cacdac also personally visited Nacalaban’s family to provide updates on the case and offer support. “I went to their home, met with her family, including her minor child, to inform them about the developments,” he said.
