Marcos awards over 3,500 housing units to Yolanda survivors in Eastern Visayas

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. distributed 3,517 housing units to survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda during a ceremony held at the Burauen Community College in Leyte yesterday.

Marcos, accompanied by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, presented symbolic keys to municipal leaders from eight towns in Eastern Visayas and three selected beneficiaries of the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program.

According to a Philippine Star report, the housing units, built under the National Housing Authority (NHA), are located in various sites across Leyte, Samar, and Biliran, including Cool Spring Residences, Riverside Community Residences, and Mont Eagle Ville Subdivision in Leyte; Marabut Ville Sites 1 and 2 in Samar; and the Culaba Housing Project in Biliran. Among these, only the Culaba Housing Project is situated on land owned by the local government, with the rest managed by the NHA.

Marcos and Romualdez inspected the Cool Spring Residences, which features 600 bungalow-style homes built on 40-square-meter lots. The homes were provided at no cost to qualified beneficiaries displaced by the 2013 disaster.

Prior to the event, mayors from eight localities signed an agreement formalizing the allocation of the housing units to the survivors.
