President Marcos hosts senators for dinner on same day as INC peace rally

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos welcomed senators and their spouses for a dinner at the Bahay ng Pangulo on Monday evening.

The First Lady shared photos from the gathering on Facebook, showing the presence of senators Ramon Revilla Jr., Lito Lapid, Francis Tolentino, Sherwin Gatchalian, Raffy Tulfo, Joel Villanueva, Mark Villar, Jinggoy Estrada, Francis Escudero, Cynthia Villar, Alan Peter Cayetano, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Loren Legarda, and Robin Padilla.

Several of the attendees are associated with the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” senatorial ticket, including Pia Cayetano, Lapid, Tolentino, Revilla, and Imee Marcos.

The dinner coincided with the National Rally for Peace organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo at the Quirino Grandstand. Police estimates placed the crowd at 1.5 million. While the event was described by its leaders as non-political, it expressed support for President Marcos’ position against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Under the Philippine Constitution, senators act as an impeachment court should the House of Representatives impeach any high-ranking official.
