Dubai Metro and Tram to run non-stop for New Year’s Eve, free buses deployed

Dubai Metro and Tram services will run continuously for over 43 hours starting December 31 to manage the heavy influx of visitors during New Year celebrations, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced in a Khaleej Times report.

Dubai Metro will operate from 5 AM on December 31 until the end of January 1, while Dubai Tram will run from 6 AM on December 31 until 1 AM on January 2. The RTA is also deploying 1,400 buses across the emirate to provide free transportation for the public.

Hussain Al Bana, Executive Director of Traffic at the RTA, highlighted the comprehensive planning to ease traffic congestion. “We encourage everyone to use the Metro and other public transport to ensure smooth travel. Specific stations like Dubai Mall Metro Station may close temporarily to avoid overcrowding, with Business Bay station serving as an alternative,” he said in the same Khaleej Times report.

Signage and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) will guide commuters with real-time updates on road closures, alternative routes, and available parking. Dubai public parks will remain open until 1 AM for families looking to enjoy the festivities in a relaxed setting.

Fireworks and drone shows will dazzle visitors from 36 locations, including iconic spots like Burj Park, Bluewaters, and Hatta. The RTA urges the public to plan their trips early and rely on public transport to ensure a hassle-free celebration.
