John Amores, former NorthPort player, is permanently barred from participating in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and other professional basketball leagues following his involvement in a shooting incident in October.
The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) revoked Amores’ professional basketball license, citing “conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player.” The decision, signed by GAB chairman Francisco Rivera and commissioners Manuel Plaza III and Angel Bautista, took effect immediately.
“Accordingly, the respondent is no longer allowed to participate in any professional basketball game sanctioned by the board,” the ruling stated. Amores is also prohibited from sitting on the bench or attending games as a spectator.
The October incident occurred in Lumban, Laguna, where Amores and his brother became embroiled in a post-game altercation. The former PBA player was accused of confronting an opponent with a handgun and firing it, leading to a charge of attempted homicide.
The PBA had already suspended Amores, denouncing his actions as inconsistent with the league’s standards of behavior and the positive image it aims to promote among fans, especially younger audiences.
Amores, who was drafted into the PBA in 2023, had a controversial career. He previously played for Jose Rizal University but was banned from the NCAA in 2022 after punching four players from De La Salle-College of St. Benilde during a game.
