Mexican wrestling icon Rey Mysterio Sr mourned after his passing at age 66

Rey Mysterio Sr, a celebrated figure in Mexico’s lucha libre wrestling scene, has died at the age of 66. His death on December 20 was confirmed by multiple media outlets.

The legendary wrestler, who was the uncle and mentor of WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr, gained fame through his achievements in the World Wrestling Association and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, often referred to as Mexico’s version of WWE, expressed their condolences in a heartfelt post. “We regret the sensitive death of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Mysterio Sr. We extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones and pray for his eternal rest,” the statement read.

Rey Mysterio Sr’s impact extended far beyond Mexico, as he captivated international audiences with memorable performances, including at the Championship Wrestling’s Starrcade in 1990.
