Tragedy struck the Boy Scout jamborette in Barangay Pasonanca on Thursday morning, when three participants were electrocuted while transferring a tent, ABS-CBN News reported.
Initial reports revealed that 15 boy scouts were moving the tent from the roadside to the camping area at Freedom Park when its pointed tip accidentally hit a dangling live wire. The contact caused a powerful electric surge that threw the students off.
Emergency responders immediately arrived at the scene, but three scouts were pronounced dead. Ten others were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
The jamborette, attended by about 2,800 boy scouts from various schools, had only begun and was scheduled to run until December 15. Following the incident, Mayor John Dalipe suspended the event after meeting with police, barangay officials, and scouting representatives.
Concerned parents rushed to the site to fetch their children. Maribeth Jacobe, a parent, expressed willingness to let her son join future scouting activities but called on organizers to prioritize safety measures.
