Vice President Sara Duterte has announced that she will not be attending the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) probe on December 11 regarding her recent remarks about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez. The Vice President cited advice from her legal counsel as the basis for her decision.
Speaking on December 9, Duterte explained, “I can skip the NBI’s investigation and just submit a letter or affidavit.” She also mentioned prior commitments, including thanksgiving activities on the same day, and her uncle’s interment in Davao City.
Despite her absence, NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that the investigation would proceed as planned.
Addressing recent impeachment complaints against her, Duterte expressed openness to the proceedings, viewing them as an opportunity to respond to the allegations. “The impeachment case is OK because I’m the only one being investigated and attacked. This is to finally answer everything they’re accusing me of,” she told GMA Regional News.
The complaints, filed last week, accuse Duterte of constitutional violations dating back to her tenure as Davao City mayor in 2007 and continuing through her role as Vice President and concurrent secretary of the Department of Education.
Duterte also acknowledged the support of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), which has called for peace amid the political turmoil. She noted the church’s desire for stability to pave the way for national prosperity.
