Marcos not closing doors to reconciliation with Duterte amid feud

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remains open to the possibility of reconciling with Vice President Sara Duterte despite escalating tensions and Duterte’s recent critical remarks.

“Never say never,” Marcos told reporters during an ambush interview when asked about Duterte’s statement claiming their relationship had reached a “point of no return.”

Duterte previously expressed that the rift was irreparable, stating, “I believe we reached the point of no return and it is clear na [that] they are really going after me.”

The fallout stems from a House investigation into the alleged misuse of confidential and intelligence funds by Duterte’s offices, the Vice President’s Office and the Department of Education.

Adding fuel to the controversy, Duterte recently revealed she hired someone to target Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez if any assassination plot against her materialized. Her statement has triggered a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) probe.

Marcos and Duterte, who ran as allies in the 2022 elections, now find themselves at odds as the public feud intensifies.
