Mumbai customs officials seized over 4kg of smuggled gold dust and three gold bars during separate inspections at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on November 26.
In the first case, customs officers discovered 4.050kg of 24-karat gold dust disguised in a wax-like form during a routine check of a flight from Sharjah. The undeclared gold is valued at approximately Rs28.9 million based on market rates.
In a separate incident, a passenger arriving from Dubai was caught with three 1kg gold bars hidden in his trouser pockets. The bars, also 24 karats, are estimated to be worth Rs22.7 million. The passenger was arrested, and further investigations are underway.
Both cases highlight continued attempts to smuggle gold into India, often using creative concealment methods to evade detection.
