World’s largest mosaic mural unveiled at Hatta Dam to honor UAE’s founding fathers

Brand Dubai, in collaboration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has unveiled the Zayed and Rashid Mural at Hatta Dam. Recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest mosaic, the 2,198.7-square-meter artwork pays tribute to the UAE’s founding fathers, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

The mural, part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, commemorates national milestones from Flag Day to the UAE’s 53rd National Day. Crafted with 1.2 million mosaic pieces, the artwork recreates a historical photograph of the leaders during the UAE’s formation.

Installed on the Hatta Dam’s slope, the project was led by Russian artist Sergey Korbasov and over 100 artisans. Natural materials from the Hatta region were used to blend the artwork with its surroundings, while a cascading waterfall adds to its visual impact.

The initiative is part of the Dubai Street Museum project, which showcases Dubai’s culture and history through public art. DEWA’s Managing Director, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, emphasized the mural’s role in celebrating the UAE’s heritage and inspiring sustainable development in the region.

Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, highlighted the collaboration’s success in transforming Dubai’s landmarks into cultural touchpoints that honor the vision of the UAE’s founding fathers.
