The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Monday that Vice President Sara Duterte will be issued a subpoena in connection to her controversial statement involving the assassination of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
DOJ Undersecretary Jesse Andres confirmed during a press briefing at Malacañang that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) holds the authority to proceed with the issuance of the subpoena.
This comes after President Marcos pledged to counter any “criminal attempts” targeting him and his allies. Duterte previously revealed that she had instructed for their assassination should she fall victim to a successful attack on her life, remarks that have heightened political tensions.
