Moldovan-Israeli rabbi found murdered in UAE; three suspects arrested

Authorities in the UAE have confirmed the murder of Zvi Kogan, a 28-year-old Moldovan-Israeli rabbi, who went missing last Thursday. His body was discovered during an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects, the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday. Legal proceedings against the suspects are now underway, Khaleej Times reported.

Kogan, an emissary of the Chabad Hasidic movement, was residing in Abu Dhabi with his wife. His disappearance was reported by his family, prompting an immediate search effort by UAE authorities. Kogan will be laid to rest in Israel, where he will be mourned by the Chabad community and the global Jewish community.

The UAE government emphasized its commitment to maintaining safety and societal stability, pledging to act decisively against any threats. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova condemned the violence and assured its cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the murder a “heinous” act and praised the UAE’s cooperation in the case. “We will work to strengthen ties and ensure justice,” he stated.

Chabad leaders and members expressed shock and grief, describing Kogan as a representative of “light, goodness, and kindness.” The organization urged world leaders to hold perpetrators accountable and called for stronger measures to protect communities globally.

UAE officials, including Dr. Anwar Gargash and Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba, reiterated the nation’s dedication to tolerance and coexistence. Al Otaiba condemned the killing as an attack on the UAE’s core values and vision, affirming the country’s resolve to remain a beacon of peace and diversity.
