75 Filipinos set to return home from Lebanon under gov’t repatriation program

A group of 75 Filipinos is expected to arrive in the Philippines on Sunday as part of the ongoing government repatriation program for nationals affected by the escalating conflict in Lebanon.

The Department of Migrant Workers confirmed on Saturday that the workers would land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport around 8:30 a.m. This brings the total number of Filipinos repatriated since October 28 to 1,191.

The intensified conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has led to a surge in airstrikes, prompting the United Nations to call the recent bombardment the “deadliest and most devastating” in decades.

“The deepening humanitarian catastrophe has severely impacted civilians,” said Ivo Freijsen, the UN refugee agency representative in Lebanon, noting Israel’s dramatic escalation of airstrikes and ground operations.
