Dubai businessman and philanthropist Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor has donated Dh11.3 million to Al Jalila Foundation, the charitable arm of Dubai Health, to support critical healthcare initiatives.
The donation will fund 4,000 annual dialysis sessions for underprivileged patients in the UAE and contribute to the renovation of the nephrology unit at Dubai Hospital, according to the foundation. The revamped unit will be named after the late Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, honoring his legacy of philanthropy, with funding for the project derived from his estate and managed by Al Habtoor in line with Al Suwaidi’s will.
Commenting on the initiative, Al Habtoor, Founder and Chairman of Al Habtoor Group, highlighted the significance of supporting healthcare and easing the challenges faced by kidney patients. “It is an honour to see the nephrology unit bear the name of the late Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, and we remain committed to partnerships that drive sustainable healthcare improvements,” he was quotes as saying by Khaleej Times.
Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health, praised Al Habtoor’s generosity, stating that the contribution exemplifies the spirit of community involvement in strengthening the healthcare system. “This donation will not only enhance patient care but also ensure its long-term sustainability,” he said.
