The UAE’s organising committee has revealed that the official name for this year’s National Day celebrations is ‘Eid Al Etihad’, underlining the theme of ‘union’ to commemorate the unification of the Emirates on December 2, 1971. According to a Khaleej Times report, the announcement emphasises the significance of unity, heritage, strength, and national pride.
Every year on December 2, a grand celebration takes place, typically attended by the Rulers of the Emirates. While the venue for this year’s main event has yet to be disclosed, various ‘Eid Al Etihad zones’ will host activities across all seven emirates.
This year’s National Day also marks the final long weekend of 2024, with holidays on December 2 and 3 (Monday and Tuesday), creating a four-day break when combined with the preceding weekend.
Eisa Alsubousi, director of Strategic and Creative Affairs for the event, highlighted the importance of sustainability and participation. “We invite everyone to join in the joy of this historic occasion and celebrate consciously. Our comprehensive guides provide inspiration and tips on celebrating sustainably,” he stated.
The committee encouraged residents to reduce waste and recycle or repurpose decorations to promote eco-friendly festivities. Guides are available to assist government bodies, private companies, schools, and families in celebrating in ways that make a positive impact.
