Multiple GCash users hit by system glitch leading to unauthorized withdrawals

GCash, a popular mobile wallet app, is under scrutiny after numerous users reported unauthorized withdrawals from their accounts. The issue surfaced on Saturday, Nov. 9, when several customers received messages from GCash advising them to change their MPINs and promising refunds within 24 hours due to unusual account activity.

Among the affected users was actress Pokwang, who shared her experience on Instagram, revealing that P85,000 had been stolen from her account. She posted screenshots and expressed her frustration, stating, “Naghahanap buhay po ako ng marangal… tapos isang umaga pagka gising mo simot ang laman ng GCASH accnt???”

According to Pokwang, around 30 unknown cellphone numbers withdrew the funds from her account. She also raised doubts about the effectiveness of the SIM card registration policy, emphasizing her disappointment over being targeted despite her hard work and efforts to support others. “Nakakaiyak talaga sana naman,” she wrote, urging GCash to address the issue and support affected users.

Dreamscape publicity head Eric John Salut also shared a similar experience, disclosing in the comments that he had lost P45,000. He expressed hope that users could recover their lost funds.

In response, GCash issued a statement through Gilda Maquilan, VP and Head of Corporate Communications, clarifying that the incident was part of an isolated system reconciliation issue affecting only a few users. The company assured that all accounts are secure and said it has reached out to those impacted, working on restoring their account balances.
