Veteran showbiz reporter and “Cristy Ferminute” host, Cristy Fermin, posted a bail of PHP 240,000 on Monday to address five counts of libel filed against her by former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and actress Sharon Cuneta in Makati City. The cases, filed in May, led to Fermin’s temporary absence from her radio program alongside co-host Romel Chika.
In a recent broadcast, Fermin shared her experience navigating the bail process and warned about scammers posing as agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). “There are people who claim to be NBI agents trying to scam me, but I’m not someone they can fool,” she said, holding up documents confirming her bail approval signed by Judge Andres Bartolome Soriano of Branch 148, Makati Regional Trial Court.
Fermin also spoke about her history with legal cases, emphasizing her respect for the law and her practice of voluntary surrender when needed. “I always surrender voluntarily. I don’t want to be searched by law enforcement because I respect the law,” she explained.
After completing the lengthy bail process, which required numerous signatures from her legal team, Fermin expressed gratitude to the Makati City Hall employees and court staff who supported her through the ordeal. “To everyone from the first floor to the 14th, thank you for your warm wishes and for cheering me on,” she added.
Fermin’s bail is set, but the libel cases remain active in the Makati court under Judge Soriano, known for handling notable cases such as those involving former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and Rappler founder Maria Ressa.
