In a gesture underscoring the close ties between the UAE and Egypt, the UAE President has pardoned three Egyptian football players who were convicted for their roles in a brawl during an October 20 match in Abu Dhabi, WAM reported.
The players, from Egypt’s Zamalek Club, were previously sentenced to one month in jail and fined Dh200,000 each after being found guilty of assaulting public security personnel and inciting disorder during the Egyptian Super Cup semi-final against Pyramids Club. Court findings supported these charges through security footage and victim testimonies, revealing the players’ non-compliance with event regulations and aggression toward public employees managing security.
Arabic media reports identified the individuals involved as Nabil Emad Dongha, Mustafa Shalaby, and football director Abdel Wahed El Sayed. The three were summoned for questioning on October 21, a day after the incident.
