Drivers in Abu Dhabi cause crashes by stopping for road hazards, police warn

Two separate accidents in Abu Dhabi were caused by drivers who suddenly stopped after encountering road hazards, as shown in a video released by Abu Dhabi Police on Friday.

The first incident occurred when a mattress flew off a pickup truck, prompting a white vehicle to stop in the middle of the road. A water delivery truck failed to avoid the sudden stop, crashing into the car and flipping over, nearly hitting other vehicles.

In the second case, steel rods rolled onto the highway. While other cars continued moving, a white van abruptly stopped, causing a rear-end collision.

Police emphasized that both crashes could have been avoided if drivers had swerved or kept moving instead of stopping. Authorities warned that stopping in the middle of the road is a punishable offense, with a fine of Dh1,000 and six traffic black points.

Drivers are advised to stay focused and avoid distractions. In case of emergencies, motorists should use designated areas and activate hazard signals before moving to the nearest exit.
