The Philippine Hotel Owners Association Inc. (PHOA) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) have set an ambitious goal of reaching 456,000 hotel room keys in the Philippines by 2028. The target was revealed on October 16 during the launch of the Philippine Hotel Industry Strategic Action Plan, a five-year roadmap designed to boost the competitiveness of the country’s hotel sector.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco highlighted in a PhilStar report the importance of this blueprint in helping the Philippines reclaim its standing in the ASEAN region and on the global tourism stage. She praised PHOA’s aggressive collaboration with the DOT, which started two years ago, noting the shared commitment to achieve this target.
Frasco emphasized the need for ambitious goals, pointing to the projected demand for hotel rooms and the necessary investments to meet it. The plan will focus on expanding room capacity, improving infrastructure, and enhancing sustainability. Key areas include upgrading transport networks, expanding tourism roads, and advancing digital platforms to improve visitor experiences.
The accommodation sector employed 1.45 million people in 2023, and the hotel industry attracted over 51% of the P508.8 billion in tourism investments, underlining its vital role in the country’s economic recovery.
