Moderate temperatures and rainfall expected as UAE enters Al Wasmi season in mid-October

The UAE will welcome the Al Wasmi season from mid-October to December 6, signaling the arrival of one of the most favorable periods in the Arab calendar. This season, which follows the intense heat of summer, is marked by cooler days and nights, making it an ideal time for agriculture.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, explained in a WAM report that Al Wasmi begins as the star “Suhail” rises, marking the end of the “Safri” season. Daytime temperatures during Al Wasmi range from 30°C to 34°C, while nighttime temperatures drop to between 12°C and 18°C. As the season progresses, both day and night temperatures gradually cool, leading up to the beginning of winter in December.

Rainfall during Al Wasmi is particularly beneficial for agriculture, as it helps replenish groundwater due to lower evaporation rates. Bedouins traditionally observe the alignment of stars like Suhail and Sirius to determine the start of this season, which has long been vital for farming and plant growth in the region.
