A primary school teacher from Ras Al Khaimah was honored with the prestigious Dakilang Manggagawang Pilipino (DMP) sa UAE Award 2024. This award, organized by the Pinas Group of Companies, recognizes outstanding OFWs who exemplify excellence in their professions, communities, and families.

Jonnel Garcia triumphed over nine other finalists in this year’s competition, which saw around 200 nominations submitted online. After a thorough selection process, the top 20 candidates were shortlisted to present their stories to a panel of judges. The heartfelt testimonies of the finalists highlighted their dedication to both work and community service, with Jonnel ultimately emerging as the top choice.

The award ceremony was graced by notable Philippine dignitaries, including His Excellency Alfonso Ferdinand Ver, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Vice Consul Jim Jimeno from the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, and Labor Attaché Atty. John Rio Bautista from the Migrants Workers Office. The presence of sponsors, media partners, and families of the finalists added to the festive atmosphere of the event.

A former public school teacher in the Philippines, he migrated to the UAE seven years ago to provide a better life for his family. His dedication to both his profession and community work has been unwavering. As an active church member and volunteer, Jonnel has participated in various community outreach activities, including environmental initiatives and supporting local religious events.

He has also proudly represented the Filipino community by volunteering at Expo 2020 and the Special Professional Licensure Examination 2024 in Dubai.
