These qualities perfectly describe a young artist who has steadily carved a name for himself not only as a vocalist but also as a songwriter and composer. His journey in the entertainment industry, though filled with challenges, showcases his passion for music and dedication to honing his craft.
Adonis Arcilla, born in California, USA, and raised in the Philippines, brings a unique blend of American and Filipino musical influences to his work. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Adonis’ love for music began at an early age. “Nahanap ko ang aliw at simbuyo ng damdamin sa musika,” he shares, emphasizing how melodies and lyrics became his way of expressing himself. Drawing inspiration from various genres like pop, jazz, and soul, he developed a distinct vocal style that resonates with audiences, creating deep emotional connections.
Adonis first gained recognition when he became the Grand Winner of the “I Sing Zambales” singing competition, organized by renowned composer Vehnee Saturno. This victory was followed by another triumph in the nationwide competition, “I Sing Philippines,” held at Araneta Center, Cubao. He didn’t stop there, as he was also crowned the Grand Winner in “I Sing Myanmar,” a prestigious international competition where he represented the Philippines. “Ang karanasan ko sa Myanmar ay hindi malilimutan,” Adonis recalls, as it was a significant milestone that validated his talent on a global stage.
Heavily influenced by Gary Valenciano, Adonis pursued a career in music, fueled by his admiration for the seasoned performer. He currently works as a band vocalist in Olongapo City, where he continues to share his love for music with a local audience. However, his ambitions extend beyond performing. “Isa sa mga layunin ko ay maging mas kilala bilang Songwriter/Composer,” he reveals, aiming to make a mark in the music industry by composing original songs and contributing to the growth of aspiring artists.
Adonis also dedicates his time to teaching voice lessons to singers participating in nationwide and international competitions. His desire to support up-and-coming talents reflects his commitment to uplifting others through music. “Patuloy akong nagbibigay ng kontribusyon sa mga aspiring artist,” he notes, underscoring his passion for nurturing new voices.
Despite his current success, Adonis’ path was not without struggles. He has faced numerous challenges and personal hardships, but these experiences only made him stronger. “Hindi ako sumuko kahit maraming hamon ang dumating,” he admits, pointing out that his perseverance and adaptability helped him overcome obstacles. By embracing these difficult moments, Adonis learned valuable lessons that shaped him into a more resilient individual, better equipped to handle future challenges.
Adonis’ advice to those aspiring to break into the music industry is straightforward: “Huwag matakot sa negative feedback.” Constructive criticism, he believes, is crucial in refining one’s skills and becoming more competitive. For him, constant improvement is the key to success in such a demanding industry.
