A tragic school bus fire in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 1 claimed the lives of multiple children and at least three teachers. Among those who perished was 24-year-old Kanokwan Sriphong, who was reportedly found hugging her students until her final breath.
The heartbreaking details of Kanokwan’s heroic act were first shared by Thai activist Gun Jom Phalang. He revealed that Kanokwan’s body was discovered embracing her student, a final display of her dedication as a teacher.
Kanokwan had only recently embarked on her teaching journey, becoming an assistant teacher for first graders in July 2023. Just days before the accident, she received her diploma with second class honors on September 26.
Tragically, two other teachers also lost their lives in the fire. Pimthong Sombat, who was recently awarded a silver medal for her outstanding work in education, and Saranya Homkaesorn, a trainee teacher who was just a week away from completing her university training.
Locals have started placing flowers, garlands, milk, and snacks near the accident site on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road to honor the victims. The tragedy has left the community mourning the loss of these educators who displayed immense bravery and commitment to their students.
