Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player John Amores and his brother, John Red, are facing attempted homicide charges following a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna. Government prosecutors filed the case on Thursday at the Lumban-Kalayaan Municipal Circuit Trial Court, according to Lumban police chief Major Bob Louis Ordiz.
Amores allegedly attempted to shoot Lee Cacalda during a heated argument after a basketball game on Wednesday evening. Fortunately, the victim was unharmed. Both Amores and his brother surrendered to authorities early Thursday, citing threats against them.
Investigators revealed that Amores used an unlicensed gun, which he claims to have discarded. The recommended bail was set at P24,000 for Amores and P10,000 for his brother.
The PBA expressed its sadness over the incident, with Commissioner Willie Marcial stating that the matter is under police investigation. Amores was previously involved in a 2022 controversy for punching a player during a collegiate game.
