The Pinoy Softbolista community held its Season 5 of the One-Day League (ODL) Tournament very recently.
The event featured eight all-Filipino teams in a fierce softball competition, with Jaguar Team emerging as the champions.
The victorious members of the Jaguar Team include Albert Dita, Aldous Salonga, Alex Grande, Benjie Timbang, Bernadette Zafe Atole, Elmo Basi, Emy Castillo, Jennifer Tang, Jhapzy Santos, Maclin Samorin, Michael Paquingan, and Rhey Enad.
How it started
Pinoy Softbolista began its journey in Dubai in 2008 with early players like Ed Cruz, Aldous Salonga, Mike Maga, and Rey Enad.
The community gained momentum in 2018 when they started participating in DUPLAYS-sponsored tournaments, where they won their first championship for Filipinos in the UAE.
Since then, what began as an 80-player gathering in December 2020 has grown into a community of over 300 active participants across four different emirates—Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.
Several members of the community have impressive athletic backgrounds, including stints in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA).
Some have even represented the Philippines in the Baseball World Series.
Following the success of the Season 5 ODL, the Pinoy Softbolista community has plans to expand its reach further.
The organizers intend to host a youth softball and baseball clinic and participate in the Dubai Little Softball and Baseball League.
Those interested in joining this vibrant community can follow Pinoy Softbolista on their Facebook Page, Pinoy Softbolista Dxb, for updates on upcoming events and leagues.
The community welcomes players of all skill levels, focusing on learning, sharing knowledge, and enjoying the game in a competitive yet friendly environment.
