Filipino wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan finishes eighth in Paris Paralympics 400-meter T52 event

Filipino Paralympian Jerrold Mangliwan ended his run in the 400-meter T52 race at the Paris Paralympics in eighth place on Saturday morning, Manila time. Mangliwan clocked in at 1:04.55, trailing behind his competitors in the field of eight.

This performance was nearly 10 seconds slower than Belgium’s Maxime Carabin, who took the gold with a time of 55.10 seconds. Japan’s Tomoki Sato, the defending gold medalist from Tokyo, secured the silver, while fellow Japanese racer Tomoya Ito claimed the bronze.

Mangliwan’s last Paralympic outing in Tokyo saw him disqualified for stepping out of his lane. Despite his setback in Paris, he is set to compete again next Friday in the men’s 100-meter T52 event.

Other Filipino athletes, including javelin thrower Cendy Asusano, swimmers Ernie Gawilan and Angel Otom, and taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin, are also slated to compete in the Para Games. Ganapin and Gawilan are expected to start their events on Saturday.
