UAE visa overstayers can regularize status with no penalties or bans during amnesty

The UAE is set to roll out a new amnesty scheme starting September 1, offering visa violators a chance to regularize their status and return home without facing penalties. This initiative, organized by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), will run for two months and is designed to help illegal residents clear their records without incurring fines or facing bans.

Immigration experts and social workers are urging those affected to take full advantage of this opportunity. “One will not face a ban and can return to the UAE anytime they want after regularizing their visa status,” said Ali Saeed Al Kaabi, an immigration advisor, in a Khaleej Times report. He emphasized that the program ensures that violators can return to the country without restrictions, provided they secure a residency visa or job offer before leaving.

Nissar Thalangara, president of the Indian Association Sharjah, confirmed after meetings with ICP officials that the process will be more streamlined compared to previous amnesty programs. “Overstayers can approach approved typing centres from September 1 to collect and submit their applications,” he noted, adding that there will be no need for special tents or activities at immigration offices.

To prevent a repeat of past situations where many overstayers were unaware of the amnesty, Thalangara’s association will launch awareness campaigns and offer support at a dedicated counter in their office. This initiative aims to ensure that every eligible individual can benefit from the scheme and avoid future legal complications.
