Weather alert issued as thunderstorms and dust storms expected in UAE

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and rain, expected to continue until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 9, due to the presence of cumulonimbus clouds. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for dusty conditions across the UAE.

Citing a Khaleej Times report, the NCM has cautioned residents about a possible decline in horizontal visibility, which could drop to less than 3,000 meters until 7 p.m. Motorists have been advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility and to refrain from using their phones while driving.

Earlier today, light rains and heavy drizzles were reported in some parts of the UAE, particularly along the eastern coast. The NCM also indicated that convective clouds might lead to further rainfall in eastern and southern areas.

Temperatures are expected to rise significantly, with highs of up to 48°C in internal areas, 46°C in Abu Dhabi, and 44°C in Dubai. In contrast, the mountains could experience lows of 21°C. Humidity levels may range from as low as 15% in the mountains to as high as 85% in coastal areas and islands.

The weather forecast also predicts light to moderate winds, which could freshen at times, causing dust and sand to blow across the country. The sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are expected to be slight to moderate.
