UAE company ordered to pay Dh100,000 to employee fired on first day

An Abu Dhabi court has mandated a company to compensate a female employee with Dh100,000 after she was terminated on her first day of work.

According to the case at the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court, the woman was offered a monthly salary of Dh31,000 and had resigned from her previous job to start the new position in August. On her first day, she was unexpectedly dismissed without any explanation or fulfillment of the agreed employment obligations.

The woman reported significant financial, emotional, and reputational damages due to the sudden termination, Gulf News reported. She claimed the company’s actions breached the contract, which included benefits such as insurance, bonuses, travel tickets, vacations, and end-of-service payments.

The court determined that the company wrongfully canceled the job offer after the woman had already resigned from her previous position and met all conditions. The court dismissed the company’s argument that she was on probation, ordering them to pay her compensation and cover her legal fees and expenses.
