Man kills neighbor in Indonesia over questions about why he was not married

A 45-year-old man in Indonesia allegedly killed his 60-year-old neighbor after being hurt and annoyed by the latter’s persistent questioning about why he was not married.

The incident occurred on July 29 in South Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra, as reported by Indonesian media. The victim, Asgim Irianto, a retired civil servant, was attacked at his home by Parlindungan Siregar, according to Assistant Police Commissioner (AKP) Maria Marpaung.

On the evening of the attack, Parlindungan arrived at Asgim’s home around 8 pm, wielding a piece of wood, and began assaulting him without warning. Asgim fled to the street but was pursued and struck on the head by Parlindungan. Despite efforts by residents to stop the beating and rush Asgim to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical care.

The police apprehended Parlindungan within an hour of the attack. During questioning, Parlindungan admitted to beating Asgim to death, citing his neighbor’s frequent and jesting inquiries about his unmarried status as the motive.

Reports also indicated that the two neighbors had previous disputes over their chickens wandering into each other’s coops.
