A deaf father from Legazpi City, Albay, made a touching request this weekend to a local pastry shop, Lazy Baker Cupcakerie, asking for a simple cake worth P100 to celebrate his son’s college graduation.
In a note written on a piece of notebook paper, the father humbly requested, “Madam, meron po tag P100 na cake? Bili po ako kahit maliit lang sana. Pang-graduation po. T.Y.” (Madam, do you have a P100 cake? I would like to buy one, even if it’s small. It’s for a graduation. Thank you.)
Touched by his request, Lazy Baker Cupcakerie decided to exceed his expectations and gave him a cake worth P1,400 instead. “Today, his eldest son is graduating, and he couldn’t contain his pride and joy,” the store shared in a Facebook post on Sunday. “Touched by his story and his unwavering love for his son, we gladly offered him a cake to celebrate this significant milestone.”
According to an ABS-The bakery accepted the father’s P100 payment as he was their first customer of the day. Despite his modest request, the father’s joy and gratitude were evident. He wrote another note offering his services in return: “Madam pag may gusto ka po ipa-work or ipalinis dito, ako na lang po, makabawi man lang po ako sa lahat na binibigay mo po sa akin hehehe. God bless your family madam.” (Madam, if there is anything you would like me to do or clean here, please let me know. I want to repay you for everything you have given me. Hehehe. God bless your family, Madam.)
Lazy Baker Cupcakerie revealed that the father frequently visits their store on a bike, traveling 30 to 45 minutes to ask for cake scraps. “It’s moments like these that remind us of the incredible strength of a parent’s love and the true meaning of community. Congratulations to the proud father and his graduating son! Your story has inspired us all,” the store wrote.
On Monday, the bakery announced that the father learned about the viral post and was “very happy.” The store encouraged people to drop by with goods if they wished to help, ensuring the father would be there to meet them.
“If you guys want to help, you can drop by the goods at our bakery. Just let us know when so he’ll be there. Thank you all for your generosity and compassion.”
