AED500 fine imposed by UAE police for leaving cars with engines running

Abu Dhabi Police issued a warning on Saturday, cautioning drivers about the risks of leaving their car engines running when stepping out of their vehicles. This advisory was highlighted in an awareness video released by the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate.

The police pointed out a common behavior among drivers who leave their engines running while stopping at petrol stations, ATMs, or mosques. Many believe that quick stops, such as for prayers, snacks, or cash withdrawals, do not require shutting off the engine.

However, this practice can lead to serious consequences, such as the car catching fire or being stolen. The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate emphasized the importance of turning off the engine and parking properly.

Additionally, the authorities advised drivers to avoid stopping in prohibited areas and to take necessary safety measures if forced to stop on the road. Leaving a vehicle with its engine running in such situations is particularly hazardous.

The police also reminded drivers that failure to comply with traffic signs and instructions would result in a fine of Dh500.
