South Korea visa applications now accepted by mail in the Philippines

Filipinos planning to visit South Korea can now apply for a tourist visa by mail, a move aimed at making the travel preparation process easier and more efficient. This service, which started on May 1, is available through a collaboration between the Korea Visa Application Center (KVAC) and W Express, formerly known as DHL Philippines.

“We are proud to play a part in enabling more Filipinos to experience the rich culture and beauty of Korea,” said Dawn Feliciano, president and chairman of W Express, in a press release. The new service allows applicants to submit their documents at any of the over 100 W Express branches nationwide, streamlining the process significantly.

Ahn Kyu-suk, managing director of KVAC, highlighted that the initiative supports the center’s mission to “simplify and streamline the process, allowing applicants to concentrate on planning their trips rather than the logistics of visa application.”

However, the mail-in service is currently limited to the Tourist Visa (C-3-9) applications for Filipinos. Those applying for other types of visas or non-Filipino nationals will still need to visit the KVAC or designated travel agencies in person.

The process outlined by W Express involves completing the visa application requirements, submitting the documents at a W Express branch, and settling a fee of P1,900 per application, payable on-site. The fee includes processing and delivery, which may vary depending on location. Applicants can expect to receive their visas within 14 business days.

The introduction of this service aims to reduce the time and effort involved in obtaining a visa, with the entire process, from submission to passport delivery, typically taking about 14 to 16 working days, according to W Express. This development is part of a broader effort to enhance the accessibility of international travel for Filipinos.
